佐藤栄作 受賞論文集

第17回奨励賞group develops. Perhaps it may someday become the representative of the UN on thetechnology front. It is easy to see that the human race is growing increasingly homogenous. Doesthis affect the United Nations, or is it simply the advanced spread of commerce andindustry, a spread that will have little to no affect on the humanitarian efforts of theUN? The former, absolutely. The UN will be placed in a delicate position in the yearsto come, due to the simple fact that it is the‘United’Nations.A World Government: Staying Within the LinesAn increasing unification of world affairs means an increased interaction betweenthe various governments in the world. It also means an increased difficulty forthese governments. Surely a meeting of world powers cannot be simple, be itlanguage, cultural, or other barriers. The apparent solution is a single, unified WorldGovernment, able to meet at a moment’s notice and include representatives fromevery country, gathering without prejudices or biased opinions, able to make decisionsthat change the world... However, this is absolutely not the solution, as has beendemonstrated all too often. Humanity, people, have rejected this type of ultimategovernment all too often. Take, for example, the recent meeting of the World TradeOrganization (WTO) in Seattle, Washington-America. The meeting was delayed5 hours on the first day because of legions of protesters. Protesters? Protestingwhat? Protesting the loss of power of the people, protesting the actions of the WTO,encouraging America to slow globalization and concentrate on domestic issues. Theprotests that occurred then were exactly the type that would occur if anythingresembling a world government was proposed. The same issues would come up, aswell as a whole crop of new ones.77
