The United Nations creates a Global Education Trust fundedentirely by the contributions of the Corporate World. As a quid pro quo allnations consent to provide a common tax concession to these contributions andagree to permit these corporations to carry suitable logo on their products.Global Education TrustThe Global Education Trust(GET)is an opportunity for TNCs to show theirhuman face, and gain some modest dividend to themselves in the process. The GlobalEducation Trust invites corporations to contribute directly to promoting universaleducation. Its broad focus and concept is briefly discussed below.The Trust’s objective would be to impart primarily vocational and non-formaleducation to the target population in the working age group(15-55)with theobjective of skill building and removal of ignorance. Its secondary objective wouldbe formal education for children. By and large literacy must remain the task of10619 A UN program intended to help businesses become world citizens Companies participate in The GlobalCompact by making a commitment to observe a series of general principles on Human Rights, labour relationsand environmental protection, and to engage in an open dialogue on how they are doing so.
