第6回佳作countriescanlearnfrom theJapaneseexperience.TheroleofJapaninthedevelopmentofSouth-EastAsiathroughinvestmentandtradeisanundisputablefact.Bythis,Wearenotoverlookingthereversenow andthecontributionofSorth-EastAsiannationstotheJapaneseeconomicdevelopmentinthefわrm orcheap labourand markets.Though therecan benojustification foranyform ofcolonization,theemergenceofthenewlyindustrializedcountries(NIC'S)inSouth-EastAsiacouldbeatributedtotheinterdependenceofthenationswithintheregion.Thereismoreroom forimprovement,especialy in theopeningup ofJapanesemarkets.ThoughJapanseemstotakeseriouslyanythreatfrom theUnitedStatesortheEuropeanEconomicCommunity(EEC),herhandlingofsimilarcomplaintsfrom herSouth-EastAsianneighbourshasbeenfarfromsatisfactory.AnasesmentofJapan'seconomicroleshouldbebasedontheextenttowhichshec0-Operatesinthedevelopmentothermembersorherfわrmerclub(thatis,developingcountries),andhowsheenchancesthefreetradeconceptofwhichshehasbeenamajorbeneficiary.Problemsofhunger,PovertyanddesertificationcouldbeconsiderablyreducedifJapanjoinshandswithboththed帥elopedanddeveloplngCOuntriesthroughacontinuedactivesupportfortheactivitiesoftheUNUniversity.The"island"conceptshouldnomorebeanexcuseforthesheddingofresponsibility.Japanisexpectedtoplayamajorroleinworldp組Ceanddisarmamentthroughheractiveparticipationinworldpolitics.Japan'ssinglemostimportantobjectiveofjoinlngtheUnitedNationswastohelp guaranteeitsnationalsecurity.Takinganeutralstance,Japanshouldserve,lnCOlabora-755
