Perhaps as the world becomes one an increasing amount of pressure willbe put on those nations not already working towards the greater good of mankind.Perhaps this century will see the joining of the remaining few countries to the UnitedNations, and a heightened worldwide peace because of that. Like so many greatundertakings, we can only wait and see what becomes of this so noble an organization.The Role of the United Nations in the International Community of the21 st CenturyThis year the UN will be celebrating its 56 th birthday. Through those 56 years theUN has seen some major changes in the way the world works, and in the way thecitizens and peoples of this International Community live and work with each other.Our individual nations are becoming more and more individual by name alone, andthis is exactly the type of thing the United Nations was created to help achieve- aworldwide uniting. While we have not achieved that yet, and are still arguably faraway from that ultimate goal, there is no way to deny that the UN has helped inthe progression of peace, of relief efforts, of education, and in the building of a betterworld. This century will be an important one, not just to the maturing United Nations,but to the entire world.As mentioned before, only time will tell what the UN accomplishes in this century,and whether or not the impact of this organization continues to grow. If, however, itdoes continue on the upward path it has been tracing for years, we shall be seeingsome good times in this era. Not just the peoples of rich, developed, nations either.Those all over the world will feel the touch of the UN reaching out to help, to aid, toprovide assistance and education where it is needed, to show the residents of Earth83
