The United Nations may look, at very first glance, a lot like this type of government.Looking further, though, reveals that it clearly is not a world government, nor was itever intended to be. In fact, this fact is specifically stated on the UN’s web site (http://www.un.org). The UN is an organization, only that. As the world becomes more andmore unified, however, and as the UN, being the embodiment of that world, starts tohold more sway over international issues, it will become a mighty task for the UNand its organs to stay away from the job of governing the world’s countries. This is,or will be, one of the important things that the UN will deal with in the 21 st centuryorganizinghumanitarian efforts throughout the globe while making sure it doesn’tcross the thin line between being a world government and being a world organization.What if it does cross the line? Well, refer to the first paragraph. There are enoughvoices to speak against this elevation of power. In this case it would not simply be onecity with protesters, either: it would be a worldwide affair. There would be billions ofpeople involved, enough to keep the UN from crossing the line, or if it did, enough toput the power back where it belonged.In any case, the role of Word Government is not one to be played by anyone, atleast not in this century. The UN must watch itself-treading with the same carefulsteps it has for the past 55 years, but with more of a guarded air. Becoming unifiedas a world has its advantages and its disadvantages, but for the United Nations it willmean watching its actions just a little more closely.?...and peace throughout the land?In addition to the increasing unification of the globe, the 21 stcentury was rung inwith an era of relative peace.
