In addition, Israeligovernment has been expanding settlements to accept Jewish immigrants fromall over the world. However, it is beyond the scope of this paper to discuss thesegeopolitical problems.Under the conflict situation, each government in the Middle East has been usingeducation as a tool for controlling the society by encouraging a mind setting in theyoung generation that fits its political targets. In general, education can play animportant role in improving the quality of life and getting a respectful social status.However, school textbooks are used in all schools for all children, and the contentsbecome the common knowledge among them. Therefore, the contents of the schooltextbooks have an immeasurable influence on the children, and can be manipulatedfor political purposes by instilling the negative stereotypes images of the opponent.To solve a long controversial conflict in international relations of the MiddleEast, the United Nations is expected to take a significant role for its reconciliation.In the year 2000, the United Nations launched the International Year for the Cultureof Peace, and activities for peace started. According to a UNESCO report,“peace isconsidered as an indivisible whole based on the principle of friendly relations betweenpeoples and States having different social and political systems and on the respect forhuman rights and I fundamental freedoms.”１132１UNESCO, Recommendation concerning education for international understanding, co-operation and peace andeducation relating to human rights and fundamental freedoms.
