第13回佳作The technical director would not be required to be an expert on all technology asconsultants could be hired as needed, in addition to UNU in house technical experts.However, the technical director, should have a comprehensive education, actual handson experience and standard classroom theoretical instruction, in technology: havea vision for UNU in relation to its technological development; and lastly, not be tooingrained in the UN System that his/her mind has no fresh, invigorating ideas.10.All UNU staff members, should have mandatory technical training. This wouldinclude typing class and an introduction to computers and technology. Thesecond part of the training would be to develop a staff member’s awarenessto integrating technology in their daily responsibilities - this would ensurethe systematic use of technology, making it as common as ink correctionfluid. Some staff members are not comfortable with a copy machine, muchless other technology. Training classes would ease and encourage their use oftechnology.Training could be provided at very low cost via video taped courses, computerbased instruction (wherein a user loads a CDROM into their computer for desktoptraining), standard classroom instruction, courses via satellite (remote instructor andlocal students and vice versa) and other methods.Disadvantages of TechnologyTechnology is not a perfect solution to all problems, and should only be used as atool and means to an end result - information dissemination.It must never replace or supplement human contact, but only be used to aid andassist us in carrying out our responsibilities.
